4-year-old boy drowns in Lake Quinsigamond; police investigating

Police responded to the area of Bridle Path Tuesday evening; child was later pronounced dead at a hospital

A 4-year-old boy has died after being pulled unresponsive from Lake Quinsigamond late Tuesday afternoon, prompting an investigation by Worcester police.

Officers responded to a home on Bridle Path — a residential road along the western shore of the lake — shortly after 5 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive child. According to police, the boy had been found unresponsive in the water before being brought into the nearby home.

Emergency responders rushed the child to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have not released the child’s identity, and details surrounding the circumstances of the drowning remain unclear. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Tuesday’s incident comes at the start of the summer season, when activity around the lake typically increases.
