Here are the Worcester Guardian’s five picks for things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- Spin it like it’s 1999 (Or $1.99): Vinyl lovers, bargain hunters and movie buffs, this one’s got your name all over it. WCUW is hosting a massive record and movie poster sale called the Rebop Shop Record Sale featuring 50% off records and CDs, with some albums going for just $2 and select 45s and CDs for only $1. Cinema Worcester is joining in with a full-size movie poster sale, while live DJs spin throughout the event to keep the vibe going. It all happens at 910 Main St.— Saturday, March 21, from 3-6 p.m., and Sunday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to noon.
- Sweep, slide, repeat: If you’ve ever watched curling during the Olympics and thought, “I could absolutely do that,” here’s your chance to prove it. Colonial Curling is hosting learn to curl sessions at the Worcester Ice Center, offering a hands-on introduction to the sport in about 2.5 hours. The class, happening Friday, March 20, at 9:30 p.m. includes a quick off-ice primer, on-ice instruction, and wraps up with a short game so you can test your newfound skills. Open to all ages and abilities, it’s a low-pressure way to try something new — and if you get hooked, there are weekly pickup leagues to keep you sliding. Sign-up details are available at colonialcurling.com
- Pints, fiddles and foot stomping: If your ideal Sunday involves live music, a cold drink, and zero sitting still, Boland’s has you covered. Songs for Ceilidh — a high-energy Celtic band blending Irish, Scottish, and Maritime sounds with modern flair — returns for a performance that leans more party than pub set. Expect upbeat originals, fiddle-driven classics, and rhythms that practically dare you not to tap your feet (don’t expect “Danny Boy” — this isn’t that kind of show). Catch them Sunday, March 22 at 3 p.m. at Boland’s Bar and Patio, 81 Water St.
- Family ties, reimagined on the walls: Art meets emotion—and a little creative dialogue—at ArtsWorcester’s latest exhibition opening. “Kindred,” a collaborative show with the Fitchburg Art Museum, pairs works from the museum’s permanent collection with new pieces created by local artists in response. The theme centers on family in all its forms — from bloodlines to chosen connections and everything in between — resulting in a layered, thoughtful exhibition. The public reception takes place Friday, March 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. at ArtsWorcester, 44 Portland St., with free admission and a cash bar. Bonus: select works will be chosen to be displayed at the Fitchburg Art Museum, with announcements made during the event.
- Spoken word, soul and a sprinkle of magic: Poetry’s in the spotlight at the Brick Box Theater as the Poets Cauldron brings its signature mix of storytelling, music and cultural connection to Worcester. The evening features legendary artist Ursula Rucker, along with performances by Melo Green and Essma Litim, all hosted by BrujaTheVillain. Early entry ticket holders can also catch a panel discussion before the main event. Expect a night that leans into rhythm, community, and powerful voices. It all happens Saturday, March 21 at the Jean McDonough Arts Center, 20 Franklin St., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
