Worcester man indicted on federal firearm charge

Gilbert Morin, 39, accused of illegally possessing pistol and ammunition; arraignment set for Friday

WORCESTER—A Worcester man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on a firearm charge.

Gilbert Morin, 39, was indicted last week on one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts. He made an initial appearance in federal court in Worcester on Friday, Sept. 5.

Prosecutors allege that on May 30, 2025, Morin possessed a Taurus pistol and ammunition despite having previously been convicted of a crime punishable by more than a year in prison. He was arrested that same day and charged in state court, where he has remained in custody since.

The firearm charge carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The indictment was announced by U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley, Acting ATF Special Agent in Charge Bryan DiGirolamo, and Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kaitlin J. Brown of the Worcester Branch Office is prosecuting the case.

Officials said the prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative targeting violent crime and illegal firearm possession.
