WORCESTER—A Worcester man has been indicted on a murder charge in connection with the death of another city resident whose body was found in the woods in Hubbardston earlier this year, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
A grand jury returned the indictment against 32-year-old Ryan Wilcox on June 25. He was arraigned in Worcester Superior Court on July 7 and ordered held without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 27.
The case stems from the discovery of a body on the morning of Jan. 4, when just before 10 a.m., Hubbardston police responded to a report of a body found off Brigham Street. The victim was later identified as Mitchell Burke, also of Worcester.
The investigation, led by Hubbardston police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the DA’s office, resulted in Wilcox’s arrest. He was initially arraigned on Jan. 6 in Worcester Central District Court on charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault with a dangerous weapon, and armed assault with intent to murder.
He has remained in custody since that arraignment.
The murder indictment upgrades the charges following further investigation and presentation to the grand jury, according to the DA’s office.
