The Worcester Guardian’s founding board brings together diverse professional backgrounds and deep community ties to guide our mission of trusted local journalism.

Timothy M. Loew

Board chair

Loew is a consultant advising nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher education on strategy, resource development and market growth. He is co-founder of MassDigi, a Massachusetts-based game development center acquired by Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he served as executive director and senior adviser. Loew also held leadership roles at Becker College, including director of government and community relations and general manager of its varsity esports program. He coordinates the Worcester-based Wire Group angel investment network and brings experience in innovation and organizational leadership.

John W. Rodriguez

Founding Board Member

Rodriguez is a school counselor with Worcester Public Schools, where he has served since 2010 supporting students in academic achievement, college and career readiness and personal development. He previously worked with the Northeastern Family Institute and Chauncy Hall Academy, assisting youth in structured treatment settings. Rodriguez also held leadership roles with the Worcester Housing Authority, overseeing family, youth and elderly programs, including drug prevention initiatives. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Assumption University and a certificate of advanced graduate study in school counseling.

Giovanni S. Blue

Founding Board Member

Blue is a business development manager at Workplace Resource LTD in Worcester. He is responsible for client development, sales strategy and relationship management. Blue is active in community engagement initiatives. He serves as a youth counselor with We Are the World Kids Foundation and as an ambassador for the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of Merrimack College with a degree in business administration and marketing, Blue brings experience in customer service, outreach and organizational development to his board service.

Christina M. Andreoli

Founding Board Member

Andreoli is a vice president at Leader Bank after spending eight years as senior vice president of private banking at Berkshire Bank. She previously served as executive vice president of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce and president of Discover Central Massachusetts. Andreoli held senior roles in Worcester City Hall, including chief of staff to the city manager and positions within the Executive Office of Economic Development. She also served as executive director of the Worcester Public Library Foundation. A graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Communications, Andreoli serves on multiple nonprofit boards and brings expertise in economic development and regional leadership.

Joseph W. Kahoro

Founding Board Member

Kahora is a physician assistant at UMass Memorial Health – Harrington Hospital, where he provides clinical care in a hospital setting. He brings health care experience and community insight to the Worcester Guardian Board. Kahora’s professional work focuses on patient-centered care, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and advancing health outcomes in Central Massachusetts. His service reflects a commitment to public health and accessible medical services in the region. Through his clinical practice, he contributes frontline health care expertise and perspective to board discussions related to community well-being and institutional partnerships within Worcester and the broader region.

Carl A. Herrin

Founding Board Member

Herrin is chief of staff to the president at Worcester State University, a position he has held since 2011. He previously spent 25 years in nonprofit leadership roles in the Washington, D.C., area, including executive director positions and senior management posts. Herrin has served on nonprofit boards and national committees related to education and international programs. A 1981 graduate of Georgetown University, he brings experience in higher education administration, governance and nonprofit management to his service on the Worcester Guardian Board.

Mary Beth Burke

Founding Board Member

Burke earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross and a master’s degree in political science from Boston College. She has served as an adjunct professor at Assumption University and as an associate researcher at the Worcester Regional Research Bureau, where she conducted policy research and authored reports on education and municipal issues. Burke was a co-founder and board chair of the Abby Kelley Foster Regional Public Charter School and served on the MBTA Board. She remains active in civic and cultural organizations throughout Worcester.

Timothy P. Murray

Founding Board Member

Murray is president and chief executive officer of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, a role he has held since 2013. He previously served as lieutenant governor of Massachusetts and as a three-term mayor of Worcester. In state government, Murray focused on economic development, infrastructure and public policy reform. As chamber president, he leads initiatives to recruit, retain and incubate businesses in the region. He studied at Fordham University and earned a law degree from Western New England College School of Law.

Emily P. Trevallion

Founding Board Member

Trevallion is assistant vice president of media relations at The Hanover Insurance Group in Worcester. She has more than 15 years of experience in media relations and external communications across public, private and nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining The Hanover, Trevallion was an account manager at PAN Communications in Boston and began her career in the Office of Public Affairs at Framingham State University. A graduate of Framingham State University, she brings expertise in strategic communications and corporate messaging to the Worcester Guardian Board.

Luke M. Vaillancourt

Board Member

Vaillancourt is the President of Vaillancourt Folk Art in Sutton, Massachusetts, and earned a BS in New Media Publishing and an MS focused on contemporary publishing trends and communication/media technology from Rochester Institute of Technology. He co-founded Mass Foodies (later Mass Food & Wine) and the Worcester Wine Festival, has served on the boards of Worcester Academy, the Museum of Worcester, and Discover Central Massachusetts, and maintains close ties to several organizations involved in digital marketing and technology in the financial segment. He enjoys art, food, and history, with a particular fondness for Las Vegas and Nantucket, and lives in Sutton with his wife and two children.

Don Doyle

Board Member

Doyle is a retired banking executive who most recently served as president and chief executive officer of Webster Five from 2016 to 2025. He joined the institution in 2004 and held leadership roles including division manager of business banking and senior loan officer. Earlier in his career, Doyle worked in senior positions at Mechanics Bank, Bank of Boston and Flagship Bank. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an MBA from Suffolk University. His four-decade career emphasized community banking, financial stewardship and organizational leadership.

Abigail Salois

Board Member

Salois is an attorney specializing in state-intervention child custody cases, with particular focus on appellate advocacy. She earned a law degree from Suffolk University Law School and holds a bachelor’s degree in human services from the University of Delaware. In addition to her legal practice, Salois is a writer whose work addressing mental health and stigma reduction has appeared in regional publications. Her professional background integrates legal expertise, public policy awareness and community engagement.

David Nordman

Lead consultant

Nordman is a co-founder and lead consultant of The Worcester Guardian. He serves as executive director of integrated communications at the University of Maine, overseeing strategic communications, media relations and storytelling. Nordman previously was executive editor of the Telegram & Gazette and held a senior communications leadership role at Northeastern University. He has more than two decades of experience in journalism and media management.
