WORCESTER—When the team’s away, the fans must play. With the Worcester Red Sox busing it to its first-ever road game on the Fourth of July, the team is offering a new way for local fans to celebrate: an all-ages Family Fest at Polar Park capped by a fireworks show.
The inaugural event runs from 4-9 p.m. on Friday, July 4, and promises everything but baseball—though even that will be covered, in spirit. The evening includes inflatables, lawn games, face painting, live mascot appearances, Touch-a-Truck attractions, and a screening of a classic baseball film on the video board. A UniBank fireworks display will follow to close out the night.
According to the team’s announcement, this will be the only fireworks display happening in Worcester on the holiday itself.
While the WooSox play in Syracuse and the Boston Red Sox visit Washington, D.C., organizers plan to share live and recorded messages from WooSox players, as well as game highlights, during the festival.
Tickets are on sale now at polarpark.com/familyfest. Admission in advance is $5 for kids and $10 for adults. Children two and under are free. On the day of the event, tickets increase to $7 and $15. Fans can leave and re-enter the ballpark with a valid scan.
Among the attractions:
- The WooCages, where kids can take swings like the pros
- Appearances from all four mascots: Smiley Ball, Woofster, Roberto the Rocket, and Clara
- Inflatable baseball games
- Face painting and glitter tattoos
- Touch-a-Truck with local police, fire, EMS, and service vehicles
- Lawn games include corn hole, ladder toss, giant Connect Four, and more
Concessions and merchandise will be available for purchase, including special edition 4th of July WooSox caps at the Team Store.
“We hope that an afternoon and evening of family fun, capped by an extra-long Patriotic UniBank Fireworks Spectacular, will offer a centerpiece to our community’s mid-summer celebration,” said WooSox President Dr. Charles A. Steinberg in the announcement.
The event is rain or shine. For group bookings or more information, the team encourages contacting their special events office or visiting polarpark.com/familyfest.
