WORCESTER—Another exhilarating chapter of the Boston Marathon, the 128th edition, has been written, with more than 30,000 determined athletes conquering the historic 26.2-mile route from Hopkinton to Boylston Street on Patriots’ Day.
Leading the charge among the men was Sissay Lemma of Ethiopia, crossing the finish line with a remarkable time of 2:06:17. Meanwhile, in the women’s division, Hellen Obiri of Kenya secured victory for the second consecutive year, clocking in at 02:22:37, narrowly surpassing her compatriot Sharon Lokedi by a mere eight seconds. Obiri’s triumph marked a historic moment, making her the first woman since 2005 to achieve back-to-back wins at the prestigious Boston Marathon.
On the American front, CJ Alberton claimed victory in the men’s category with an impressive time of 02:09:53, while Emma Bates emerged triumphant in the women’s division, completing the course in 02:27:14.
Beyond the elite ranks, numerous local heroes from Worcester proudly completed the marathon, with 26 residents from the city crossing the finish line.
Notably, with a time of 02:43:35, Brian Carroll came in 214th overall, and 192 in the men’s race, and 173rd in his overall division. Michael Terekhov, with a time of 02:32:19, placed 148th overall, 129th in his division and 117th in his division.
