A large-scale search remained underway Sunday night after a man was reported missing in Lake Quinsigamond near Sunset Beach.
According to a statement posted by the Shrewsbury Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 3:27 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that a man was possibly drowning in the area.
Shrewsbury police officers responded both on land and aboard the department’s patrol boat, joined by the Shrewsbury Fire Department and Worcester EMS. The first responders were unable to locate the man, according to the department.
As the search expanded, numerous agencies joined the effort, including Worcester Police, the Worcester Fire District 7 Dive Team, District 14 Dive Team, Holden Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Environmental Police.
Authorities said search efforts have included crews searching from the shoreline, boats on the water, dive teams, underwater drones and aerial drones operated by the Shrewsbury, Berlin, Grafton and Westborough police departments.
As of 8:45 p.m., the man had not been found and the search was continuing, according to the police department.
“The Shrewsbury Police Department takes the safety and well-being of the entire Lake Quinsigamond community extremely seriously,” the department said in its statement. “We are committed to utilizing every available resource to protect those who live, work, and recreate on and around the lake.”
No additional information about the missing man had been released Sunday night. The Worcester Guardian will update this story as more information becomes available.
