WORCESTER, MA—The Boston Marathon transcends mere competition; it symbolizes personal triumphs and turning points in the lives of many participants. For some, it’s a poignant tribute to loved ones lost to diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, ALS, or other afflictions.

Runners train tirelessly to raise awareness for causes such as autism, bullying, or animal cruelty. Among them are professional athletes seeking victory.

Regardless of the motivation, participating in and completing The Boston Marathon—a 26.2-mile journey from the Hopkinton starting line through Boston—is a significant accomplishment.

The roster features both familiar faces and newcomers.
