Arty bikes, casino night, Journey tribute: 5 things this weekend

Don’t even tell us there’s nothing to do around here. We won’t hear of it. The Worcester Guardian highlights some events you may want to consider attending over the weekend

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Tarentino Strong car show: Auburn police officer Ron Tarentino was gunned down during a traffic stop in 2016, and family, friends and co-workers continue to host events in his name. The annual Tarentino Strong car show returns on Sunday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Auburn Elks Club. The event draws dozens of cars and car enthusiasts, offering a chance to explore beautiful and unique wheels from the area.
  2. The YAK Bonpsiel: It’s a curling event thrown by Colonial Curling on Saturday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (you don’t have to stay the whole time!) at the Worcester Ice Center on Harding Street. Come on down and cheer on some local curlers.
  3. Hey, streetlight people: The Great Escape, widely known as the best Journey tribute in the area (or even the country), is returning to Rascals on James Street for a big show that pulls from the mammoth catalog by Steve Perry and the boys. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. and tickets start at $17.
  4. Gamble for Pawsitively 4 Pink: For a $35 entry fee, play lots of casino games, dance, snack and take pics in the photo booth. It all benefits Pawsitively 4 Pink, which given its name might imply that the group helps animals in some way. It doesn’t. But it does support an amazing cause—to provide financial assistance for low-income, underserved women diagnosed with breast cancer in Massachusetts. Casino night happens Friday, May 17, at SAC Park in Shrewsbury.
  5. Bike it: At the JMAC in Worcester on Friday, May 17, is the opening reception for the “Art of the Bicycle,” an interactive exhibit that’ll have visitors “seeing bikes in a new way.”
