BOYLSTON—Authorities have identified the man fatally shot in an officer-involved shooting in Boylston on March 5 as Patrick Sargent, 25, of Boylston, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
Massachusetts State Police (MSP) detectives assigned to the DA’s office continue to investigate the shooting. Once their report is complete, it will be submitted to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. for review.
In addition, the DA’s office has engaged Attorney John Dawley Sr. of Winchester to conduct an external review of the case. Dawley previously served as the first assistant district attorney in Essex County for 20 years and has spent nearly two decades in private practice. He will submit his findings to the DA.
Sargent’s family has requested privacy at this time.
The incident prompted a large police presence in the area of Central Street and French Drive on March 5. Earlier that day, the Boylston Police Department issued an alert describing a suspect who had fled on foot and was considered armed and dangerous. Later, the department confirmed that there was no active threat to the community, though an investigation was ongoing.
No further details have been released at this time.
