WORCESTER—A man is dead and one person is under arrest following a shooting on Beacon Street Wednesday evening in what police are calling a case of domestic violence. It is the first homicide reported in the city this year.
Officers responded to the area of Beacon Street between Hammond and Ripley streets around 7:30 p.m. on June 18, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died, according to Worcester police.
The identity of both the victim and the suspect is being withheld in accordance with state guidelines governing domestic violence cases.
Detectives were seen canvassing the scene Wednesday night, interviewing witnesses and working behind police tape as multiple cruisers blocked off the area.
Worcester’s first homicide of 2025 comes in stark contrast to last year, when the city had already recorded seven killings by early June.
