Beer, live music, unicorns: 5 fun things this weekend

The Worcester Guardian highlights events you may want to consider attending over the weekend. Five, to be exact.

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. You built a time machine…..with the Deloreans?: Pretty much. This brass-packed group made up of veteran musicians plays rockers from the ‘70s and ‘80s. Catch the band at Halligan’s in Auburn on Friday, July 26. Show starts at 8:30 p.m.
  2. Crawling for beer: Visit three of downtown Worcester’s newest beer gardens in this Worcester Beer Garden Crawl event on Friday, July 26, from 4-7 p.m. The Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District is hosting this casual evening that features visits to Odd by Worcester, Notch Biergarten and 67 Degrees Brewing. It’s free to attend, but you buy your own brews.
  3. Hail, the String Queens: The Village Worcester joins Music Worcester to bring in the String Queens, a dynamic trio that covers a repertoire spanning from the Baroque era to the Jazz Age to today’s Billboard 100. This show, happening Friday at the JMAC theater, also serves as an effort by Village Worcester and Music Worcester to build connections around racial justice, learning, creativity, community and healing.
  4. Beers go with books: Another sudsy offering this weekend! Redemption Rock Brewery on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. is hosting a “beer and book pairing” event, at which participants enjoy four craft beers that are matched with a book that captures the spirit of the brew. Hosted by Hygge House Books. The $30 ticket includes a flight of beers, book voucher, bookmark and book tasting menu.
  5. A visit with the ‘unicorns’: Who says the unicorn is a figment of your imagination? At the Farm at SummitWynds in Holden, visit with “unicorns” on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This much-anticipated event invites visitors to strike a pose with the unicorns, take a wagon ride, browse craft vendors, enjoy food, ride a horse or a pony, and a lot more.
