Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- Groovin’ to porch music: The third annual Porch Concert Series, hosted by The Village Worcester, continues on Saturday, Aug. 24, with a performance by the Lazy Dogs and a special appearance by Sunta Jones. The show takes place from 5-7 p.m. at The Village at 4 King St.
- Annual Caribbean American Festival: It’s back and it’s big! The 11th annual Caribbean American Festival takes place from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, at Institute Park. The event also includes a parade that marches from City Hall at 1:30 p.m. and ends at the park. This event features performances, live music, food, kids activities and a lot more. All performances start at 1:30 p.m. If you’ve been, you know. If you haven’t, you should.
- Classic cars, classic tunes: Rev it up, hot rod hearts. Far From Eden plays a bike and classic car night from 7-10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, at the Vernon Hill American Legion. Oh, and there are food trucks, too. It couldn’t look and sound more like summer than this.
- Blue Light Bandits hit Off the Rails: Hailing from right here in Worcester, the Blue Light Bandits is a four-piece indie rock band that is heavily influenced by 70s soul and R&B. Since the band released its first project, B.L.B Demo, in 2014, it has amassed more than three million streams on Spotify, spanning two full-length albums and a selection of EP’s and singles. Catch ‘em on Saturday with Miss Fairchild at Off the Rails.
- Mountain high, summerfest vibes at Wachusett: Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, that is. The annual summerfest is happening at Wachusett in Princeton on Saturday and Sunday, featuring an artist market, live music, local food trucks, skyrides and a luau on the lawn. The event runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
