Sugar Ray’s at WCUW, there’s a mug-making night that includes wine and profanity, several plant swaps and sales, and a celebration at the Ecotarium. The Worcester Guardian highlights events you may want to consider hitting up this weekend.
Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- Sugar Ray Brings the Blues to Worcester: Blues legend Sugar Ray and the Bluetones hit WCUW’s Fantastic Front Room this Saturday, May 17, for a night of raw, traditional blues. Catch the 4–6 p.m. opening of Tom Hazeltine’s blues photo exhibit next door in the Harold Steven Gallery, then stick around for the 7:30 p.m. show. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 cash at the door—and yes, you can bring a picnic.
- Sip happens: Potty Mouth paint night returns: Unleash your inner smartass at Potty Mouth Paint n Sip, 7–9 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Clayground Studio (65 James St.). Choose from 140+ gloriously profane stencils or go rogue and paint whatever the heck you want. It’s BYOB (21+ to booze, 18+ to sass) and unapologetically adult. Admission is $5 to reserve your spot, with pottery priced separately the night of. Space is limited, so register now—and get ready to make the mug of your sweary dreams.
- Plant One On Worcester: Green thumbs, unite! On Friday, May 16, swing by the REC Plant Sale (10 a.m. to 6 p.m., 42 Lagrange St.) for seedlings, garden tips, and vendors—plus a chance to support 30 years of community gardens in Worcester. Then on Saturday, May 17, swap houseplants and cuttings at the Worcester Public Library (noon to 1 p.m.). Bring a healthy plant, leave with a new leafy friend. Grow time, good time.
- Bloom with a cause in Burncoat: The 4th Annual Burncoat Bloomfest returns this Sunday, May 18, from 1-5 p.m. to the Burncoat Center for Arts and Wellness, 78 Burncoat St., with a full bouquet of local flavor and feel-good vibes. This sustainable arts and wellness festival features live music, handmade goods, tasty bites, games, and family-friendly activities—plus it’s pet-friendly, so your four-legged pals are welcome too. Entry is a suggested $5 donation or three non-perishable food items to support Worcester Community Fridges. Come for the crafts, stay for the community.
- A gala that’s out of this world: Dress to impress and toast to the cosmos at the EcoTarium’s annual Night at the Museum gala on Saturday, May 17, from 6-10 p.m. This adults-only, cocktail-attire event celebrates the museum’s 200th anniversary with an evening under the stars, complete with complimentary cocktails, gourmet dinner by Peppers Artful Events, a live auction, animal encounters, and after-hours access to exhibits and educational programming.
