‘Clean for Kicks’ drive underway in Worcester area

A regional “Clean for Kicks” campaign is underway in Worcester and Shrewsbury, where residents can donate children’s shoes through April 27 to support Cradles to Crayons.

A regional donation drive aimed at providing shoes to children in need is underway at Worcester-area car wash locations, giving residents an opportunity to contribute while running everyday errands.

The “Clean for Kicks” campaign, a partnership between ScrubaDub Auto Wash Centers and the nonprofit Cradles to Crayons, runs April 9- 27. During that time, customers can donate new or gently used children’s shoes or make a monetary contribution at participating ScrubaDub locations, including those in Worcester and Shrewsbury.

The effort supports Cradles to Crayons’ Spring Greening initiative, which collects gently used children’s clothing and distributes it to families experiencing homelessness or living in low-income situations, according to the announcement.

Customers who donate a pair of children’s shoes or contribute $5 at a ScrubaDub location will receive a complimentary UltraShine Wax with their car wash. Those who donate $10 online will receive a voucher for a free express car wash. All proceeds benefit Cradles to Crayons, according to the announcement.

In addition to donation opportunities, local events are scheduled at Worcester-area locations. The Worcester Railers mascot, Trax, is set to appear Sunday, April 12, beginning at noon at the ScrubaDub location on Route 9 in Shrewsbury. The Worcester Red Sox mascot, Smiley, is scheduled to appear Saturday, April 18, starting at noon at the ScrubaDub location on Park Avenue in Worcester.

“ScrubaDub, a third-generation family business celebrating 60 years in our communities, believes every child deserves shoes that fit and the confidence that comes with them,” said Kory Vagos, marketing manager at ScrubaDub, in the announcement. “We’re proud to make it easy to give back this spring and support children in need.”

Cradles to Crayons distributes clothing and essential items to children at no cost through a network of service partners across Massachusetts and other regions. The organization focuses on addressing what it describes as clothing insecurity among children.

“We truly appreciate our partnership with ScrubaDub, which helps us get more shoes out to kids who need them,” said Alicia Kabir, executive director for Cradles to Crayons Massachusetts, in the announcement. “By receiving high-quality shoes that fit, kids can be more confident at school, on the playground, and at home.”

Organizers said donations collected during the campaign will support children across Massachusetts, including those in the Worcester area.
