Here are the Worcester Guardian’s five picks for things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- Giddy Up, Worcester: it’s a country Halloween throwdown: Lakeview is rolling into Off The Rails this Halloween Friday, Oct. 31, and they want to see your best costumes. The country-rock duo judges the fan costume contest during a Jack Daniel’s honky tonk pre-party from 5–7 p.m., with prizes ranging from Lakeview merch to Jack Daniel’s swag. Musical guest Chris Shelby kicks things off, then Lakeview brings the thunder with its heavy-meets-honky-tonk sound. The pre-party is free, though you need a show ticket to compete. GA and VIP tickets are still available, even though tables are already gone. Dust off your boots and get ready to dance.
- A spirited affair at Salisbury’s Mansion: Step into Worcester’s past at Preservation Worcester’s All Hallows’ Ball on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. (61 Harvard St.). Inspired by Stephen Salisbury III’s legendary soirées, the evening promises mystery, music, dancing, and seasonal fare. Formal wear is encouraged—costumes admired, masks adored, and prizes await the best dressed. Craft cocktails and historic charm make this a night to remember, all in support of Preservation Worcester. Tickets available now.
- Run, honor, repeat at Polar Park: Lace up for the Run4Veterans 5K this Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Worcester’s Polar Park. Whether you’re sprinting, strolling, or cheering from the stands, it’s all for a good cause—supporting Veterans and their families. Enjoy live music by the Midnight Riders, prizes, stadium fare, and a post-race celebration. Veterans run free; registration is $45. Show your pride in red, white and blue. Sign up at Veterans Inc. or email run4veterans@veteransinc.org
- Creepin’ It Real at Hunchback Gallery: Step into the shadows this Friday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hunchback Gallery, 75 Webster St., second floor, where Creepin’ It Real brings eerie, imaginative, and bone-chilling creations from local artists who dare to go dark. On view through Nov. 1, the exhibit features more than two dozen artists—from SaintDevil and Altered Panels to Salty Monster and Yokai—showcasing everything from the haunting to the surreal. Perfect for your final fright fix of the season.
- A Poe-ssessed Performance at JMAC: Step into the shadows with The Tell-Tale Heart + The Cask of Amontillado, a 60-minute solo séance that conjures two of Edgar Allan Poe’s most chilling narrators in one darkly funny evening. Presented by THT Rep at the Jean McDonough Arts Center, 20 Franklin St., performances run Thursday, Oct. 30 through Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets follow THT Rep’s honor-based tiered pricing: $19 (subsidized), $59 (standard), or $118 (angel). Whether you come for the scares or the spirit of supporting local theater, this is one haunting you’ll want to keep on your calendar.
