WORCESTER — Crowds didn’t seem to mind the chilly temperatures at the fourth annual Downtown Worcester Winter Festival, as they enjoyed games, activities, food and ice skating in Worcester Common on Saturday.

“This event in particular is about families,” said Lisa Malo, Downtown Worcester’s marketing director. “Of course it’s for everyone. We’ve got a big slide, ice bumper cars, ice skating, a s’mores station, arts and crafts, and definitely lots of fun for kids and families.”

Malo said the winterfest has grown every year, although this year’s official head count would take a few days. Always a big undertaking, the event is also looked forward to.

“It’s always a juggling act,” she said, “to get an event this size together, with all the different moving pieces, but our program director, Victoria Mariano, and our program coordinator, Alex Monaco, work with many of our partners, including the DCU Center team that operates the oval – they really have it down to a science. They expect the unexpected and they plan for that, and adjust as we need to. It’s complex, but I think we’re pros at it at this point.”
