It’s 4th of July weekend. You’re probably going to a cookout, or to see some fireworks, or the beach. If not, we’ve got some other suggestions. The Worcester Guardian highlights some events you may want to consider attending over the weekend. Five, to be exact.

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Clams, ice cream and the Hip Swayers: We know. We’ve picked the Hip Swayers recently. We’re going to recommend this again, because this time, the classic country/Americana band is at the Pinecroft Dairy in West Boylston. Many point to Pinecroft as having the best fried clams around, not to mention the ice cream. Add the Swayers, playing Sunday from 6-8 p.m., and you’ve got a combo platter of summer fun.
  2. Reggae Fest: It’s all about the one-drop rhythm on Saturday, July 6, at Electric Haze for Reggae Fest, featuring Fyaworks & I-Kinfidence, alongside Sydicate and Jahnyah Sweets. It’s all about music, unity, and good times starting at 7 p.m.
  3. Independence Day, back in time: Old Sturbridge Village hosts its annual celebration that includes fife and drum music, cannon demonstrations, games, a parade, and more. Hear special readings of poetry and the Declaration of Independence, join in a game of baseball, or watch a toy hot air balloon take flight. Marvel at the work of our skilled artisans and tradespeople, meet and greet sheep, chickens, cattle, and pigs, and learn about life in early 19th-century rural New England. An interesting and unique way to spend the 4th! The celebration starts on July 4 and continues through July 7.
  4. Last chance to see New Terrain: The Worcester Art Museum’s exhibit New Terrain: 21st-Century Landscape Photography has been up since the spring, and will come down on July 7. It’s your last chance to take in this exhibition focused on how 21st-century artists use different photographic processes to explore the idea of landscape. It comprises approximately 30 artworks created over the past 20 years.
  5. Learn how to make an ice cream sundae board: You’ve heard of a cheese board? This one’s all about ice cream sundae toppings. As part of National Ice Cream Month, learn how to put up an ice cream sundae topping board at the Worcester Public Library. This program is from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6.
