We’re getting into the heat of the summer. It isn’t slowing down the options of things to do in Worcester County. The Worcester Guardian highlights some events you may want to consider attending over the weekend. Five, to be exact.
Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- The 4th is the 4th, of course, of course: But historically, the city does not throw its big Fourth of July celebration on that date. That includes this year. The fireworks show, which includes live performances, food and frivolity, takes place on Friday, June 28, at East Park on Shrewsbury Street. The festivities kick off at 4 p.m.
- Polar Park Family Fest: The second annual fest, taking place at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, at the WooSox’s ballpark features a fun-filled afternoon of activities that includes Touch-A-Truck, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, inflatables, yard games, character meet and greet, food and more.
- Family fest and farmers market opening day: Saturday is the opening day of the Regional Environmental Council (REC)’s University Park Farmers Market. Kick off the summer with fresh produce from Fay Mountain Farm, Oakdale Farms, Coolidge Hill Farm, Just For Fun Farms, Crown and Root Farm, and Traveling Cap Mushroom Company. Also, enjoy foam rockets, fog and other science-based fun with Inventor Mentor, face painting and balloon art with Christine’s Creatives, nature-based activities with Mass. Audubon Society and additional kids activities with Clark Child Development Lab. The event is from 9 a.m. to noon.
- Yuk it up at Wormtown Brewery: This month’s comedy bash at Wormtown Brewery celebrates Pride month with a show on Saturday, June 29, with comedian Ang Buxton from Western, MA. Buxton is regarded as the “the world’s best poly trans Italian comedian sober tiny-handed deejay.” And as we know, the competition is stiff in that department. The show’s at 9 p.m. and you can get tickets here.
- All day country at Off the Rails: On Saturday, June 29, Off the Rails is hosting a daytime CountryFest in the lot outside the venue. Mason Ramsey headlines this extravaganza that includes the Nate Ramos Band, Tequila Bonfire, Scott Brown and the Diplomats and Kamryn. Doors open at noon and festivities kick off at 1 p.m.
