Here are our five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- This decision is the Breeze: Guitar master Duke Robillard is leading his band for a night of swing, blues and rock at Point Breeze in Webster on Friday, April 19. Robillard’s got a decorated resume full of Grammy nominations, Handy awards, Blues Music awards and lots of other honors. You may remember he replaced Jimmie Vaughan in the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and also founded Roomful of Blues. At the show, you’ll hear Link Wray’s “Rumble”, Dylan’s “Watching The River Flow”, Fats Domino’s “I’m Going To Be A Wheel Someday,” and several originals. $10 cover charge.
- Sunday Funday at the ballpark: Sponsored by Fallon Healthcare, another Sunday Funday (we didn’t name it!) is coming up this weekend (April 21) at Polar Park, where the WooSox take on the Durham Bulls at 1:05 p.m. Scheduled specifically to cap off school vacation week, this game has special highlights for kids, such as running the bases at the end of the game and giveaways. Go here for tickets and more.
- Rev it up: The Deloreans return to Halligan’s Bar in Auburn on Friday night. Comprised of seasoned music cats from around these parts, the Deloreans are a seven-piece with a brass section that drills out a mix of kicking tunes from the ‘70s and ‘80s.
- Triple the laugh makers, triple the laughs: Three top-notch comedians from the area hit the stage for one night, and one cause, on Saturday, April 20, at El Basha in Worcester. Greg Thomas and Holly Johnston join James Dorsey for a night of comedy to benefit the Shrewsbury Athletic Boosters. Show starts at 7 p.m.
- You grow it: Participants first learn about the properties of popular herbs and then plant their own at this workshop hosted by the Worcester Public Library, Salem Square, on Saturday, April 20, from noon to 1 p.m. Topics include growing herbs indoors and outdoors, including different presentation ideas as well as a review of what herbs are both edible and ornamental. Participants leave with a small seed starter kit and their choice of a variety of seeds. The program is free, but registering is a good idea, as these fill up fast.
