Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- Fireworks, face paint and fun: family fest at Polar Park: Skip the grill and head downtown: Polar Park is throwing an all-ages Family Fest on Thursday, July 4 from 4–9 p.m. — complete with inflatables, lawn games, mascots, a classic baseball movie on the big screen, and the only fireworks show in Worcester on the holiday itself. While the WooSox hit the road, fans can still hit the park for a patriotic evening.
- Wheely Big Climb: Bike to Wachusett and Back: Join Seven Hills Wheelmen for a 49-mile ride from Worcester’s Duffy Field to the summit of Mount Wachusett and back on Sunday, July 6, starting at 9 a.m. It’s an uphill grind out, but smooth sailing home — with a coffee and pastry stop at Mountainside Bakery & Cafe in Princeton around mile 20. Riders should expect a 14–16 mph pace, but faster cyclists are welcome. [RSVP to ride and see the full route here.]
- Old-Fashioned Fourth: celebrate Independence at OSV: Step back in time at Old Sturbridge Village’s Independence Celebration, running July 4–6. Highlights include a flag-raising, fife and drum music, cannon demonstrations, 1830s baseball, and hands-on crafts. On July 4, witness a moving naturalization ceremony as new citizens take the Oath of Allegiance. Festivities run 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are included with standard admission.
- Colt & the Coyotes howl at Vincent’s: Catch Colt & the Coyotes at Vincent’s on Saturday, July 5, from 9 p.m. to midnight for a genre-blending set that turns deep cuts into dance-floor gold. With a sound that fuses soul, rock, hip-hop, and surprise covers, the band brings both polish and unpredictability to every show. Get there early for Clay Pigeon, who opens with a 6–8 p.m. set, and get that meatball sandwich before you forget or it gets too late.
- Veg out at University Park: Start your Saturday with fresh produce, fun, and community at the REC University Park Farmers Market on July 5 from 9 a.m. to noon. Shop local farms such as Harper’s, Fay Mountain, and SEACMA’s mushroom operation while kids enjoy face painting, crafts, and science activities. SNAP, HIP, and WIC coupons accepted. Parking’s a breeze in the Clark lot on Gates Street.
