Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- History of the holidays in Worcester: We know that this city’s got a rich and interesting history. But do you know the history as it specifically relates to holidays and their traditions? Learn how Worcester celebrated the holiday season through the ages with historian Alex, who traces interesting holiday events and celebrations from the city’s history on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 4:15-5:15 p.m. at the Worcester Public Library in Salem Square.
- Into the Woods with Deb Cary: Join Greater Worcester Land Trust’s Deb Cary on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 9 am. for a peaceful hike through the hidden Trinity Woods Spur trail, leading to the historical grounds of Worcester State Hospital Farm. This easy, out-and-back trail might surprise participants with its secluded, wooded beauty nestled between city life and highways. Wear sturdy shoes, and consider a walking stick for extra support. No RSVP required, but appreciated.
- Feels like the first time: Because it is the first time, for Chris Principe at Boland’s Piano Bar. Principe delivers sets of acoustic covers on Saturday starting at 9 p.m. Principe tells the Guardian that his setlists span the genres of rock, folk, classic rock, Indie, ‘90s alternative, Brit pop, pop punk, “girl pop” and modern pop. The Piano Bar’s located at 81 Water St.
- Doctor Robert rocks: Given its name, you might guess that it’s a Beatles tribute. While Doctor Robert does weave the Fab Four into its sets, this band plays a mix of classic rock. DR returns to the White Eagle on Saturday.
- A Hitchcock Odyssey: Step into the world of Alfred Hitchcock with “My Name is Alfred Hitchcock,” a fresh exploration of the filmmaker’s legacy by Mark Cousins, at WCUW on Main Street on Sunday at 2 p.m.. Watch Hitchcock’s most iconic films, from his early silent works to his legendary ‘50s and ‘60s hits, as Cousins revives the director’s voice to guide viewers through his vast, influential career.
