Worcester’s got a whole lot of events and activities to choose from, from a Stones tribute to wrestling to a horror festival. Each week, the Worcester Guardian highlights some stuff you may want to consider over the weekend ahead
Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- Curling is cool: We’re not sure how cool it really is, but it is fun and played on ice. Colonial Curling, Petersham and Blackstone Valley Curling Clubs get together at the Worcester Oval on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. to throw this free learn to curl event. Instructors are on site to give anyone a chance to try this sport out and answer questions. It’s for all ages and levels and no need to register.
- Horror in the dead of winter: It Came From The 508 Productions, Magenta Manor Productions, and Manny Jae Media present its inaugural Dead of Winter Horror Festival, which showcases the pinnacle in New England horror including films, art, vendors or anything in between. The Dead of Winter horror festival takes place on Sunday, Feb. 25, at Mechanics Hall, starting at noon.
- We know, it’s only rock ‘n’ roll, but we (and you) like it: If you like the Stones, you ought to check out this local tribute Nasty Habits. This six-piece that includes Bob Moon on guitar and Mike Sanpietro on lead vocals, drills out the best of the Rolling Stones’ huge catalog of music. Nasty Habits rocks the MCL Club on Saturday, Feb, 24. Show starts at 8 p.m.
- Wrestling at the Eagle-Kick It: In conjunction with IWTV, Beyond Wrestling (which brings events to the venue weekly), is hosting “Kick It” at the White Eagle on Sunday, Feb. 25, with a 6 p.m. bell time. The match lineup is jam-packed, and includes: Lio Rush vs. Dezmond Cole, Megan Bayne vs. Alec Price, IWTV Undisputed Independent Wrestling World Title: Krule (c) vs. Tracy Williams, IWTV Independent Wrestling Tag Team Titles: Miracle Generation (c) vs. Waves And Curls, and a lot more.
- St. Patrick’s Irish festival at church: St. John of Arc is holding its annual Irish Festival on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 5-10 p.m. Admission is only $5 and includes live Irish music and Irish step dancers from the McInerney School of Irish Dance. Corned beef dinner and sandwiches are available for purchase, as is beer and wine. It is not indicated whether the beer will be green.
