Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- Black Heritage Juneteenth Festival: Worcester commemorates the freedom of enslaved people in Galveston, TX, in 1865 with its Juneteenth celebration. While Juneteenth is technically on June 19, the city’s holding its event on Friday, June 14, with a flag raising at City Hall at 5 p.m. followed by an event at Institute Park on Saturday, June 15, from noon to 8 p.m. that is packed with performances, kids activities, food, culture and a lot more.
- Learn how to bathe in the forest: Nadine Mazzola, certified forest therapy guide and award-winning author, leads a class on Friday, June 14, at Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary on forest bathing. Guided forest bathing is a “gentle and relaxing practice that restores our connection with ourselves and the landscape around us.” The program is free, and participants should meet at 9:25 a.m. at the Visitor Center.
- It’s a Cardboard World: At least it is so through June 15 at the JMAC in Worcester. Cardboard World is a captivating event in which visitors immerse themselves in a “cardboard experience designed for the entire family.” It’s capped off with the Monaco Spectacular event on Saturday, June 15, from 3-4 p.m. with performances by Rock Toy, mime action and live music.
- Get the Led out, Zepheads: The premiere Led Zeppelin tribute from the area is headlining a show at indian Ranch in Webster on Saturday, June 15, with the show starting at 7 p.m. All the hits!
- Remember Jazz at Sunset? Well, this is basically the same thing with a new name. The EcoTarium is bringing back smooth sounds, good vibes and (hopefully) golden skies with Jazz on the Sundial. This Friday, from 5:30-9 p.m., enjoy performances by the Worcester Youth Orchestra and Dan Gabel’s Stoptime Revue. Food and alcohol is available for purchase. You can bring your own food, but must purchase the booze should you desire such a thing. https://youtu.be/ZjPDSq0B9fM?si=jSVOoOOJY-9dVy3F
