JOMP jazz, puppy love, comedy, Diwali: 5 fun things this weekend

There’s a whole lot to do this season in the Worcester area. The Worcester Guardian highlights events you may want to consider attending over the weekend

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Puppy Love: A Tale of Canine Courage and Human Devotion: Join director Gail Gilbert for a special Q&A session following the screening of Puppy Love, an inspiring documentary that highlights the resilience of a paralyzed litter of puppies and the powerful human spirit rallying to save them. Witness the lengths a dedicated group of women go to—from herbal remedies to underwater treadmills—to give these dogs a fighting chance. Don’t miss it on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the Park Room, Worcester.
  2. Celebrate Diwali at the Worcester Art Museum: Immerse yourself in the vibrant colors, sounds, and tastes of Diwali, the traditional Indian Festival of Lights, hosted by the India Society of Worcester. Enjoy a full day of Indian dance, music, art, and delicious food on Sunday, Nov. 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Worcester Art Museum. Free admission makes this event a wonderful way to experience Diwali with family and friends!
  3. Faculty jazz concert kickoff at JOMP: Join the JOMP Faculty Jazz Sextet for an exciting launch of the ‘24-‘25 Faculty Concert Series on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. in Shapiro Concert Hall. Suggested donation of $25 supports JOMP’s Tuition Assistance Fund, though contributions of any amount are welcome. Students and JOMP community members are encouraged to attend, with no minimum donation required.
  4. King Gordy haunts the Raven for a Halloween Hangover bash: It’ll be an unforgettable night at The Raven in Worcester on Saturday, Nov. 2, as King Gordy headlines. Known for their dark and powerful mix of horrorcore and hip-hop, King Gordy’s intense performances are a unique experience for fans of hard-hitting beats and intense lyrics. Plus, don’t miss the Halloween Hangover costume contest, where attendees can compete for a $100 grand prize.
  5. 267 all star comedy night honors officer Manny Familia: Get ready for laughs at the DCU Center on Saturday, Nov. 2, as seven standout New England comedians perform to support the Manny 267 Foundation. Hosted by Harrison Stebbins, the evening includes comics like Orlando Baxter, Emily Ruskowski, and Corey Rodrigues. The foundation, created in memory of Worcester Officer Emmanuel “Manny” Familia, works to prevent drownings by funding emergency floatation devices, training, and youth swimming lessons. Come for the laughs, and stay for a good cause.
