Lots of music, Railers ender, Revolution time: 5 weekend things

There’s no shortage of things to do, especially over the weekend. The Worcester Guardian highlights events you may want to consider

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Break on through to Rascals: Step back in time to the Sunset Strip of the ‘60s with Crystal Ship, the ultimate Doors tribute band, live at Rascals on Saturday, April 5, from 8–11 p.m. With vintage gear, spot-on costumes, and frontman Eddie Racci channeling Jim Morrison, this show is as close as it gets to witnessing The Doors in their prime. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just love great rock, this high-energy performance will light your fire.
  2. Get in the groove with the Bruce Mandaro Band: Jam out this Saturday, April 5, at Electric Haze with the Bruce Mandaro Band, featuring Mark Mercier of Max Creek and Secret Sage. Kicking off at 7:30 p.m., this show brings together veteran jam rockers known for their groove-heavy takes on classics from the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Clapton, and more. If you love improvisational rock with a psychedelic twist, you really ought to check this out.
  3. Closing out the season with a bang: The Worcester Railers are wrapping up their regular season with a Fan Appreciation Weekend on Saturday, April 5, and Sunday, April 6, at the DCU Center. Catch the Railers as they face off against the Adirondack Thunder, score a 2024-25 team poster, and stick around for a post-game autograph session. Plus, scan the QR code at the game for a chance to win prizes such as sports tickets, gift cards, and more! Puck drops at 6:05 p.m. Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Sunday. Kids’ tickets are just $10 with an adult ticket purchase.
  4. Step Into history: the American Revolution Experience: Explore the birth of our nation at the American Revolution Experience, a free interactive exhibit at The Oaks (140 Lincoln St., Worcester). Presented by the Colonel Timothy Bigelow Chapter DAR, this traveling display brings history to life with digital kiosks, primary accounts, and engaging storytelling. Open to the public through April 6—Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 2 p.m. Don’t miss this chance to connect with the past in a whole new way.
  5. Swing into the past with Dan Gabel & His Orchestra: Step back into the golden age of big band music on Sunday, April 6, at 3 p.m. as Dan Gabel and his 17-piece orchestra, featuring award-winning vocalist Kimberly Hawkey, take the stage at Mechanics Hall. This special performance marks the Massachusetts premiere of The American Big Band Experience and the release of their new album, “Let’s Get Away From It All.” Expect the timeless sounds of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, and Ella Fitzgerald, plus a dance floor and full cash bar. Tickets start at $20.
