New bars, patio dining and late-night requests head to Worcester License Commission

A proposed Millbury Street sports bar, a new Green Street lounge and several outdoor entertainment requests highlight Thursday’s Worcester License Commission agenda

New restaurant liquor licenses, outdoor entertainment requests and a push for later closing hours at a downtown lounge are among the items headed before the Worcester License Commission on Thursday.

The commission’s May 28 meeting includes several high-profile alcohol license applications tied to restaurants, bars and nightlife spots across the city, particularly in the Canal District and Green Street area, where business owners continue seeking expanded entertainment and liquor offerings.

Among the larger proposals is an application from Guille Sports Bar and Lounge LLC for a restaurant all-alcohol license at 175 Millbury St., along with requests for a common victualer license and entertainment approval for televisions, radio and recorded music. The property is scheduled for a 9 a.m. site view before the formal hearing later in the morning.

Another notable item comes from The Corner Dive LLC, which is seeking a general on-premises all-alcohol license at 34 Green St. Commissioners are also expected to review an application from 1009 Members Enterprises LLC for a club all-alcohol license at 290 Millbury St.

Meanwhile, JG and J Corp. is seeking a restaurant all-alcohol license with an outdoor patio at 263-271 Grafton St., continuing the trend of restaurants looking to expand outdoor dining and alcohol service options.

Several businesses are also seeking temporary entertainment approvals tied to outdoor summer programming.

Mercado Restaurant on Shrewsbury Street is requesting a one-day entertainment license for a salsa band on June 18, while neighboring Miranda Bread is seeking approval for live outdoor music the same evening. Elsewhere, the Worcester Common Out to Lunch Series is seeking approval for off-premises wine sales through Broken Creek Vineyard.

The commission also revisits a request from Creed Lounge on Pleasant Street to remove a midnight closing restriction and extend operating hours to 2 a.m. That item appears as a status hearing after the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission recently issued notice of an amended suspension tied to the business.

Violation hearings are also scheduled for Dubai Restaurant & Lounge, doing business as Mexitown at 105 Water St., and Albino’s Market on Belmont Street.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m. Thursday at 25 Meade St., with site visits scheduled earlier in the morning. Residents may attend in person or remotely through the city’s ZoomGov platform.
