WORCESTER—City officials are responding to community concerns and frustrations by offering an open session to provide input, suggestions and feedback on the permitting process that is required to hold an event in Worcester.
“The municipality has received feedback from the public regarding the permitting process, including frustrations and ideas for improvement,” Tom Matthews, media and public relations administrator for the city, “and this meeting is a way to solicit more feedback from folks who have engaged in the process to learn about ways the municipality can improve the processes.”
Hosted by the city’s Cultural Development Division, this input session is being held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Worcester Public Library, and is open to anyone wishing to learn more about or give suggestions about event, vendor or concessionaire permits needed for the use of parks and public facilities.
Anyone, including organizers, vendors and business owners, who are interested in sharing their experiences engaging with the special events permitting process or anyone who is looking to learn more about the processes in general, is urged to attend.
“The municipality has received feedback from the event organizers and vendors as it relates to the special events application and permitting process,” Matthews told the Worcester Guardian. “The administration recognizes that there is a lot of room for improvement and is engaging the public, including those with subject matter expertise and experience, for improvements that will include streamlining and automating the application process, digitizing/cataloging materials, improving billing, and enhancing the overall applicant experience. The goal is to have a transparent and equitable approach to use of public space.”
