From Creed Fisher’s outlaw country show and a Rocky Horror shadowcast to a Father’s Day celebration, thought-provoking art exhibition and the Worcester Carnival’s final weekend, here are five things to do around Worcester

Here are five picks for the weekend:

  1. Outlaw country rides into Worcester: If your country playlist leans more honky-tonk than pop crossover, Creed Fisher may be your kind of artist. The West Texas singer-songwriter brings his brand of outlaw country to Off The Rails on Friday, June 12, fresh off the release of his new single, “The Outlaw Jesse James.” Since breaking onto the scene in 2012, Fisher has released 11 studio albums and built a sizable following with songs centered on working-class life, patriotism, and traditional country values. Fans of Hank Williams Jr.-style country can expect a night of raw vocals, hard-driving songs, and plenty of twang when doors open at 7 p.m. and the music starts at 8.
  2. A weekend of loud guitars and big ideas: WCUW is offering two very different reasons to stop by 910 Main St. this weekend. On Saturday, June 13, the station’s Front Room hosts a night of local rock featuring Musclecah, Swamp Roots and The Wray-Ons, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and music starting at 7. Expect everything from high-volume original speed rock to bluesy garage rock and instrumental tributes to guitar legend Link Wray. Then on Sunday, June 14, WCUW’s Harold Stevens Gallery opens “Creativity over Silence,” a new exhibition featuring painters, photographers, sculptors, ceramic artists, video artists and mixed-media creators responding to the social and political upheavals of the past year and a half. The opening reception runs from 5-7 p.m., and the exhibit remains on view through Aug. 29. Whether you’re looking for a wall of sound or a little food for thought, WCUW has the weekend covered.
  3. One last spin before the midway packs up: The lights are on, the rides are running, and the smell of fried dough is in the air as the Worcester Carnival wraps up its run on Sunday, June 14. Set up at 74 Winfield St., the traveling midway features more than a dozen rides, carnival games, and all the classic fair-food staples that make it hard to leave hungry. Weekday hours begin at 5 p.m., while Saturdays and Sundays open at 1 p.m., with rides typically running until about 10:30 or 11 p.m. before closing a bit earlier on Sunday. Whether you’re chasing thrills, prizes, or just a bag of kettle corn, this weekend is your last chance to catch the carnival before it leaves town.
  4. Still doing the Time Warp after all these years: Nearly 50 years after it first hit theaters, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” remains one of the most interactive movie experiences around. On Saturday, June 13, at 9 p.m., the Teseracte Players bring their live shadowcast performance to The Hanover Theatre, acting out the cult classic in front of the screen while encouraging audience participation throughout the film. Costumes, callbacks, and general absurdity are all part of the tradition, which has evolved from a handful of enthusiastic fans into a worldwide phenomenon. Just remember: while audience participation is encouraged, only toilet paper is allowed to fly during this performance.
  5. Celebrating all the dads at the family center: Father’s Day arrives a little early at the Worcester Family Resource Center, which is hosting a community celebration on Saturday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families can enjoy food, activities and the chance to win prizes including a PlayStation 5 or a pair of Air Force 1 sneakers customized by a local artist. The event takes place at the Worcester Family Resource Center, 20 Cedar St., and is open to families looking for a fun way to celebrate dads and father figures in the community. Registration is required by emailing yiwfrcyouinc@sevenhills.org or calling 508-796-1411.
