WORCESTER—Several items related to the quality and consistency of Worcester’s streets, roads, avenues, and byways are on the relatively light agenda for Tuesday’s city council meeting.
Councilor Kathleen Toomey requested a report from Worcester City Manager Eric Batista on the feasibility of using camera technology on city vehicles to identify locations where potholes need to be filled.
And, with the spotlight on the pothole, Councilor Khrystian King, too, asked that a report be provided to council from the city solicitor on whether there has been an increase in claims with the city relative to damage to cars from potholes since COVID-19. King also asked to provide a report on best practices for filling pothole claims forms, and to update the city’s website so that the link to the form is on the home page.
And digging below the surface, Toomey also asked Batista to produce some stats on the consistency of the conditions as they exist under pavement on Worcester streets. Further, she asked that the report should include a review of sanders that could help out when preparing the road for pavement work.
Other items on the council agenda Tuesday:
- Local activist Gordon T. Davis is petitioning that the city council’s Standing Committee on Public Safety investigate the issue of systemic racism and public safety, also requesting public hearings
Worcester City Council meets on Tuesday, May 14, at City Hall in the Esther Howland (south) Chamber at 6:30 p.m.
