Punch-out, food trucks, block party: 5 fun things this weekend

Don’t ever say there’s nothing to do around these parts. The options are plentiful. The Worcester Guardian highlights events you may want to consider attending over the weekend. Five, to be exact.

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Punch-Out at Polar Park: Get ready to rrrrruuuuuumble! It’s a night of thrilling boxing with New England’s finest pro and amateur boxers hitting the ring in a series of match-ups that include a range of categories: welterweights, super middleweights, heavyweights, and junior middleweights. The main event pits Josniel “TG” Castro against Jerry Bradford. This event, which takes place on Friday, Aug. 9, at Polar Park, also includes Welterweights Dan Docimo and Justin Laporte, who “go pro” for the first time.
  2. Country among the lilacs: Trigger South, which delivers a set of energetic takes on classics, originals and modern country tunes, headlines Country Fest at Lilac Farm in Holden (well, Jefferson, really) on Saturday, Aug. 10, noon to 3 p.m.
  3. Groovz4Growth Performing Arts Fundraiser: Celebrate Worcester’s upcoming talent with a diverse lineup of rappers, dancers, and poets at this special showcase on Friday, Aug. 9, at JMAC. The event, which takes place from 6:45-8”30 p.m., is a fundraiser for local dancer Jazlynn Cabrera, supports her journey to the elite CLI Dance Conservatory. Jazlynn, dancing since age 4, created this event to inspire young artists facing financial barriers. Join us for an evening of artistic passion and community support.
  4. Worcester’s First Annual Creative District Block Party: On Sunday, Aug, 11, from 3-8 p.m. for a vibrant celebration of local arts and community. This free event at the Creative Hub Worcester features youth involvement, live performances curated by BONAG Studios, a fashion show by Wavvz Newage, and a variety of food and drink from local vendors. Engage with interactive activities on the STEM Bus and Mobile Art Van. Discover unique art and crafts from local artisans, all hosted by Wavvz Newage, Jubilee Career Center for the Performing Arts, BONAG Studios, and Creative Hub Worcester.
  5. 5th Annual Food Truck Festival: Head out to Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Princeton on Saturday and Sunday to get foodstuffs from 20 of the best food trucks from Massachusetts and beyond. Enjoy everything from lobster grilled cheese to tikka masala sliders, and pair it with an ice cold beer (or beverage of your choice). This event also features live music and an artist market.
