In a multi-team trade

WORCESTER—The Worcester Railers have added a hometown face to their roster.

The team announced Wednesday that Shrewsbury native TJ Walsh, who led the Iowa Heartlanders in scoring last season, has been acquired in a three-team trade. Forward Ryan Miotto will also join Worcester in the deal, while Jordan Kaplan and Ryan Mahshie are headed to the Wheeling Nailers.

Walsh, 25, tallied 43 points (18 goals, 25 assists) in 66 games with Iowa during his rookie campaign, helping the Heartlanders reach the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. He added two assists in four postseason games, the Railers said in the announcement.

Before turning pro, Walsh played five seasons of college hockey at Northeastern, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Sacred Heart, where he recorded 70 points over 142 games. He also skated in the USHL with Cedar Rapids and Des Moines.

Miotto, 26, was Iowa’s third-leading scorer last season with 39 points (18 goals, 21 assists) in 66 games. The Thorold, Ontario, native previously played at Canisius College and the University of Vermont, posting 82 points across 158 collegiate games, according to the announcement.

Kaplan, who signed with Worcester this summer, scored 49 points for the Railers in 2024-25. Mahshie, acquired from Allen last season, had seven points in 43 games for Worcester.

The Railers open the 2025-26 season at the DCU Center on Oct. 18-19 against the Maine Mariners and Adirondack Thunder.
