Regatta, Chuck & Mud, lots of fests: 5 fun things this weekend

What a lovely time to attend an event, especially outside. The Worcester Guardian highlights events you may want to consider attending over the weekend.

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Harvest Festivities Hit Downtown: Fresh food, live music, and local shopping merge at Worcester’s End-of-Harvest Market and Festival on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Exchange Street. Enjoy farm-fresh produce, craft beer, and local eats from vendors like Not Ya Mama’s Vegan Café and Off the Rails BBQ. Free parking and a pedestrian-friendly vibe make it the perfect fall outing. Explore local shops and discover downtown Worcester’s vibrant spirit.
  2. Worcester Irish Cultural Festival: The second annual festival takes place at Polar Park on Saturday, Oct. 12, and features a whole lot of hurling and Gaelic football. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. and the fun starts at 12:30 p.m.
  3. International food fest: Join together for celebrating, fun, fundraising, and a whole lot of food with taste of the nations that are represented in Worcester. The food fest takes place at Living Word Church from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
  4. Chuck and Mud celebrate 45 years: Join the legendary Chuck and Mud and the Hole in the Dam Band for an afternoon of live music celebrating the legendary John Prine and a whole bunch of other stuff on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 2-5 p.m. at Institute Park. Featuring original tunes and Americana favorites, this family-friendly event includes guest performances by Rosie Canti, Ron Carlson, and Donald Prange. Bring your chairs, blankets, and picnic to this free outdoor concert, presented by WCUW 91.3 FM and sponsored by the Guild of St. Agnes and Worcester Family Partnership.
  5. Row, row, row your boat – fast: The 15th Annual Northeast Championship Regatta streams to Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday, Oct. 13. This all-day event began in 2010 as the New England Junior & High School Regional Championship Regatta, with the racing starting at 7 a.m. and the last one kicking off at 2:30 p.m. Celebrating its 15th year in 2024, the regatta has grown from 96 entries from 14 clubs to more than 450 entries from 55 clubs. The race expanded from high school/junior categories only to include masters in 2021. Viewing is available at Regatta Point, Lake Park, and on the pedestrian ways of the Route 9 bridge (in either direction).
