Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- Dancing in the street, Motown meets the movement: Celebrate Black Music Month with WCUW and “Motown Tom” Ingrassia as he brings his multimedia lecture Motown and the Civil Rights Movement to the WCUW FrontRoom on Sunday, June 22, at 4:30 p.m. Using rare video, music clips, and memorabilia, Ingrassia—who worked closely with Mary Wilson of The Supremes—offers an insider’s look at how Motown not only soundtracked the 1960s but helped propel the Civil Rights Movement. Tickets are $10 at the door.
- Rockin’ for research: Local musician and activist Matt Caranci brings music and science together for Songs for Science: A Benefit to Support Science Research on Friday, June 20, at The Raven Music Hall (258 Pleasant St). This all-ages event runs from 7 p.m. to midnight (doors at 6), with a suggested donation of $10–$20 benefiting UMass Chan’s research departments. Expect an eclectic lineup—from singer-songwriters and synth rock to science-inspired poetry—and a powerful message about NIH funding cuts and their local impact.
- Spice & spirit: Celebrate the richness of Asian traditions at the 22nd annual Asian Festival, hosted by the Southeast Asian Coalition of Central MA. Kicking off at noon on Saturday, June 21, at Worcester State University, the event features cultural performances, vibrant displays, and delicious food. The India Society of Worcester (ISW) represents Indian culture and heritage—don’t miss their music, dance, and flavorful fare as part of this colorful, community celebration.
- Paddle to ice cream bliss: Cap off your week with a sweet adventure at the Sunset Ice Cream Paddle, every Friday from 6:30–8 p.m. at Regatta Point on Lake Quinsigamond. Paddle out as the sun sets, stop for a scoop at Madulka’s Ice Cream, then float back under the glow of the lighted bridge. All levels welcome! Your reservation includes a paddleboard (or kayak if preferred—just note it when booking), paddle, life vest, and a brief lesson. Bring cash for ice cream and your favorite snacks or drinks to enjoy on the water. Advance registration required.
- Whole lotta rock at The Raven: Get the Led out this Saturday, June 21, as Physical Graffiti brings the raw Les Paul, screaming vocals and thundering drums to Worcester with the ultimate Led Zeppelin tribute show. From 8-11:30 p.m., enjoy a night packed with iconic hits performed by one of the longest-running Zeppelin tribute bands in the country. Must be 21+.
