ROKfest, cornhole tourney, farmers market: 5 fun things this week

Get up! Get out! The Worcester Guardian highlights events you may want to consider attending over the weekend. Five, to be exact.

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Hit the Bus at the brewery: You’ve likely seen the full cover band Hit the Bus out and about, but did you know there’s an off-shoot Hit the Bus duo? Two of the guys from this band play many of the hits, from pop to classic rock, that the band covers at its shows. Plus, it’s in the afternoon on Sunday at the Wachusett Brew Yard, which is a convenient place and time to enjoy some beers and tunes.
  2. First WooSox cornhole tourney: Get together before the WooSox home game on Saturday, Aug. 31, for the first ever WooSox cornhole tournament. This new pregame event, set to become an annual tradition, features a friendly (well, that part is up to you) cornhole competition, food and drink, and the ability to show off your best blocks, slides, and airmails. Sign your team up, or get tickets, here.
  3. Get the good goods at this farmers market: This seasonal REC University Park farmers marke blooms every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon at 950 Main St. in Worcester. Shop fresh, local produce while enjoying children’s and family programs and connecting with community organizations.
  4. Learn to curl: Colonial Curling hosts this curling workshop on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. designed to give participants a quick introduction to the sport. A typical Learn to Curl class is approximately 2.5 hours long, and includes about 15-20 minutes of off-ice instruction, an hour of on-ice instruction and ends with a short game.
  5. ROKfest 2024 is a mix of rock tributes: The Pike’s bringing its big rock festival to Indian Ranch in Webster on Saturday, Aug. 31, featuring a stellar lineup of performers, including Pink Houses (Cougar Mellencamp tribute), Cold As Ice (Foreigner tribute), Burning Sky (Bad Company tribute), Beyond Purple (Deep Purple tribute, plus hits from Whitesnake, Rainbow and Dio, and Draw The Line (the only Aerosmith endorsed tribute).
