This weekend in Worcester, there’s a whole lot of holiday-related stuff going on. Get out there and spark some spirit

WORCESTER—There are a whole lot of fun events going on in Worcester, all the time. Each week, the Worcester Guardian highlights events and activities you may want to consider over the weekend that is upon you.

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Throwing a Snow Ball: Preservation Worcester is holding another fancy ball on Friday, Dec. 1, in the White Room at the Crompton Park complex, 132 Green St., at 7 p.m. The historic Loom Works building is transformed into a sparkling and colorful winter paradise. The event features music by a deejay, hearty hors d’oeuvres and dessert. At $125 for an individual ticket, it isn’t cheap, but benefits Preservation Worcester, a nonprofit doing wonderful work to save and keep up with historical properties in the city.

“Dating from 1860, the revitalized industrial complex is among the oldest factory buildings remaining in the city,” said Deborah Packard, executive director of Preservation Worcester, “and has important historical associations with one of Worcester’s largest businesses during Worcester’s industrial heyday. The building is a stellar example of historic preservation and adaptive reuse. The Snow Ball will highlight the majestic architecture of the city and our preservation efforts in Worcester.”

Attendees are encouraged to wear bright and fun colors to the event.

  1. Get out (if you can)! WPI is hosting an escape room experience called “Home for the Holidays” in its Fuller Labs Dec. 4-11 What can you expect? “In our escape room, you can expect a fun immersive experience with your friends and teammates. In the room there will be three actors with you for your entire session. They are there as part of the escape room and to help tell the story of the room. To successfully escape you must work together to solve a series of puzzles that are hidden around the room before your time is up.” Go here to get tickets and book your room time.
  2. Annual festival of lights on the common: The beloved holiday extravaganza returns to the Worcester Common (behind City Hall) on Friday, Dec. 1, from 4:30-9 p.m. The free, family-friendly event features ice skating (bring your skates or rent them), food vendors, community organizations, the tree lighting (6 p.m.) and a performance by Michelle Brooks Thompson, finalist on NBC’s “The Voice.”
  3. From the street to the station: This indoor, holiday version of stART on the Street moves inside for stART at the Station—Union Station, that is—on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. As with the fall festival, it features tons of local artisans and vendors, live music, performance art and food. It’s a great way to shop for unique gifts all at one time, in one place. And soak in some culture while you’re at it.
  4. It’s Stomp N’ Holler’s 8th annual holiday special: WCUW is bringing back the Stomp ‘N Holler Acoustic Band, which plays original and holiday favorites along with special guests Donald Prange, Michelle Mae, Chuck and Mud, Daniel Gay with Syd and guests, Darren Pinto and more TBA. The show’s from 5-8 p.m. at Husky’s Pub, 413 Park Ave. Tickets are $15 at the door, $12 in advance and for WCUW members. It’s free for kids under 12.
