Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- Bach and roll: A weekend of musical mastery: Immerse in the timeless brilliance of J.S. Bach at the first-ever Bach’s Birthday Bash at Mechanics Hall. This three-day festival features world-class performances, including Jeremy Denk’s Complete Keyboard Partitas (March 21, 7 p.m.), The Worcester Chorus’ Secular Cantatas (March 22, 4 p.m.), Handel + Haydn Society’s Concerti for Two Harpsichords (March 22, 8 p.m.), and the Worcester Bach Collective’s Cantatathon (March 23, 4 p.m.). Plus, don’t miss the cake and champagne reception during intermission on March 23. Get your weekend pass, or one show, and celebrate Bach in style.
- Class clowns: teachers take the mic: After a long day wrangling kids, these educators are ready to school you in comedy. The Teacher’s Lounge brings teachers to the stage for a night of well-earned laughs, headlined by George Newton at Hotel Vernon in Kelley Square on Saturday, March 22, from 8–10 p.m. Whether you’re an educator or just appreciate their struggles, come grab a drink and enjoy the funniest faculty meeting you’ll ever attend.
- A night of nostalgia and noise, Emo style: Emo Night Worcester kicks off the year at Off The Rails on Saturday, March 22. Doors open at 7pm, with music starting at 8pm. Chase The Past headlines with emo/pop-punk covers, while Pregame Rituals and A Blockbuster Summer (paying tribute to PARAMORE) add to the lineup. Tickets are available online, with options for general admission or exclusive reserved seating. Don’t experience FOMO on the Emo.
- Step back in time: Legion III Cyrenaica at the museum: Get ready for a blast from the past on Saturday, March 22nd, as the Worcester Art Museum hosts the Legion III Cyrenaica’s Arms & Armor demos. Experience history firsthand at 11:30 am and 2 p.m., with a deep dive into the 1st-century Roman Legion based in Egypt. See history come alive through archaeology and living history reenactments.
- Improv andiImagination with PianoStory: Kids ages 8-12 can experience a unique blend of storytelling and music as PianoStory, a group of talented teens and tweens, creates improvised tales and piano compositions based on audience suggestions. This interactive performance takes place at the Worcester Public Library’s Salem Square branch on Friday, March 21, from 4-5 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of the Worcester Public Library.
