Worcester County’s lit up with entertainment this weekend. It’s truly nearly impossible to pick only five, but the Worcester Guardian does just that … highlighting some events you may want to consider attending over the weekend

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Renowned veterinarian shows what animals can teach us: As part of its author series, the JCC is hosting a talk and book signing with Karen Fine, DVM, a well-known veterinarian from the area who’s written “The Other Family Doctor,” a heartwarming memoir about her career as a vet. The must-read New York Times bestseller, and her lecture, explores the unique role pets play in their humans’ lives, and is a tribute to our furry, feathery, scaly, and wet family members. Fine appears at the JCC, Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury St. on Sunday, June 9, at 10 a.m. RSVP here.
  2. You need Proof: On the eve of her 25th birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. “Proof,” the Tony award-winning play by David Auburn and directed by John Somers, opens Friday, June 7, at Worcester Academy’s performance center.
  3. VegFest is back! The New England VegFest (NEVF), returning to Worcester State University on Sunday, June 9, from noon to 5 p.m., is a free festival that brings the local community together to celebrate veganism: an animal-friendly, environmentally sustainable, and healthy lifestyle. Sample and buy delicious vegan food and other plant-based products and learn about compassionate causes, hear amazing speakers, and participate in fun activities. This event is massive, and enlightening and entertaining regardless of your stance on veganism.
  4. Drink up some Disco Lemonade at Lilac Farm: Disco Lemonade’s the musical flavor at Lilac Farm in Rutland this weekend, playing a mix of fun, danceable, sing-along tunes from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. The show’s from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. Also enjoy local beers, ciders and wines, ice cream, excellent views, and comingling with farm animals such as ostriches and emus.
  5. The Cline and Cash Project: You know it. The best combo in the history of country music. Real country music! Featuring Nikki Luparelli and Andy Cummings, the Cline and Cash Project pays tribute to the music of Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash on Saturday, June 8, at Off the Rails in Worcester. The talented “Walk the Cline” band providing the musical backdrop to Cummings and Luparelli, transporting the audience to a realm where time stands still, where the spirits of Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash dance in the ether. The show is described as an immersive journey into the heart and soul of American music.
