Worcester man pleads guilty in federal gun case

Sentencing set for April in U.S. District Court

WORCESTER—A Worcester man pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition, federal prosecutors announced.

Gilbert Morin, 39, pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition before U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman. Sentencing has been scheduled for April 23, 2026, according to the announcement.

Federal authorities said Morin was indicted by a grand jury in September 2025 following his arrest earlier that year in downtown Worcester.

According to the release, Worcester police responded on May 30, 2025, to a report of a man with a firearm outside a downtown nightclub. Officers did not locate the man at the scene but observed a man a short distance away who appeared to be concealing an object in his hand. When officers attempted to stop him, the man — later identified as Morin — fled on foot through Worcester Common behind City Hall.

Police apprehended Morin following a foot chase and recovered a loaded Taurus pistol, authorities said. Prosecutors stated that Morin had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison, making his possession of a firearm and ammunition illegal under federal law.

Morin was arrested and charged in state court on May 30, 2025, and has remained in custody since that time, according to the announcement.

The charge carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley, Thomas Greco, special agent in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Boston Field Division and Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier announced the guilty plea. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kaitlin J. Brown of the Worcester Branch Office.
