Worcester officials are seeking community organizations to help shape the city’s next round of youth violence prevention efforts through a new funding opportunity tied to the state’s Shannon Community Safety Initiative grant program.
The city’s Division of Youth Opportunities announced Tuesday that it has opened the letter of interest process for organizations seeking funding for youth violence prevention and intervention work during the 2027 grant cycle.
Under the program, nonprofit organizations and youth-serving community groups — including those working through a fiscal sponsor — may apply for grants of up to $75,000.
City officials said organizations must first submit a Letter of Interest before they can be considered for a full application invitation. According to the announcement, only groups deemed eligible and aligned with the goals of the Shannon Community Safety Initiative will move forward in the process.
The Shannon grant program has long been used by Massachusetts communities to fund outreach programs, mentoring, intervention services and other strategies aimed at reducing youth violence and supporting at-risk young people.
The anticipated funding cycle would run from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2027.
Letters of interest are due June 12. Full requests for proposals are expected to be released July 3, with final applications due July 24. Award notifications are expected in January 2027.
Additional information and application materials are available through the city’s online application portal.
