A 39-year-old Worcester woman was killed Wednesday morning after she was struck by a tow truck while crossing a city street, according to Worcester police.

Police identified the victim as Van Thi Khanh Doan of Worcester.

Officers were dispatched shortly before 10 a.m. June 10 to the intersection of Canterbury and Grand streets for a report of a truck striking a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found Doan suffering from severe injuries to her head and leg, according to Worcester police.

Police said officers applied a tourniquet to her leg before Worcester Fire Department and EMS personnel arrived. Doan was pronounced dead at 10:09 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Doan was in a marked crosswalk crossing Canterbury Street when a tow truck approached the intersection of Canterbury and Grand streets and made a left turn, striking her.

The Worcester Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident.

Police said investigators will determine whether any charges will be filed against the truck operator. No charges had been announced as of Thursday.

The crash prompted a significant police presence at the intersection Wednesday morning as investigators documented the scene and gathered evidence.
