WORCESTER—Voters in Worcester narrowed the field for two key contests Tuesday, advancing 12 candidates in the race for City Councilor-at-Large and setting up a head-to-head battle for the District E School Committee seat between incumbent Kathleen L. Roy and challenger Nelly Medina.
City Council At-Large
Councilor Joseph M. Petty led all candidates with 5,994 votes (12.17%), followed by Kate Toomey with 5,144 (10.44%) and Morris A. Bergman with 4,685 (9.51%).
Out of 114,837 registered voters, 11,489 cast ballots, for a turnout of about 10%. That was only a shade higher than the last preliminary in September 2023, when 9.1% of voters weighed in on races for four district council seats and one school committee seat.
A total of 14 candidates were on the ballot, with the top 12 moving on to the Nov. 4 general election.

District E School Committee
In the three-way race for District E, Roy finished first with 753 votes (42.18%), followed by Medina with 597 (33.45%), securing both a spot on the November ballot.
Noelia M. Chafoya was eliminated after receiving 432 votes (24.20%).
