WORCESTER—Imagine being given $5 million to invest in your community—what would you fund, and what impact would it have years later? The public is invited to see the results of such an investment at the Worcester Community Challenge Showcase, hosted by the United Way of Central Massachusetts (UWCM), on Monday, March 24, from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Walnut Wing Basement Conference Center at 18 Chestnut St., Worcester.
The showcase features presentations from organizations that received funding through the Worcester Community Challenge, an initiative made possible by a $5 million donation from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott in December 2020. A significant portion of that gift was invested directly into the community, supporting programs aimed at expanding youth opportunities, increasing financial security, and fostering a healthier, more connected Worcester.
According to the event announcement, “Awardees of the Worcester Community Challenge will briefly present what they have accomplished over the past few years with this transformational funding. Incredibly impactful stories will be shared regarding how these programs expanded youth opportunities, financial security means, and made Worcester a healthier, more connected community.”

Speakers from a variety of local agencies and initiatives will highlight their work, including the American Antiquarian Society, Coalition for a Healthy Greater Worcester, Crocodile River Music, Family Services: Project Flourish, Our Story Edutainment, Regional Environmental Council, Ryken Scholars Program, Technocopia-Hector Reyes House Collaboration, Urban Parks Program, Worcester Community Action Council Resiliency Center, and Yes, Credit is Everything.
No RSVP is required for the event. Parking is available in the visitors lot at 18 Chestnut St. or on nearby streets. The venue is fully accessible. For more information, contact Echo Lahey at echo.lahey@unitedwaycm.org or 508-757-5631 ext. 263.
