WORCESTER—Worcester Public Schools (WPS) invites families, educators, and community members to learn more about its new elementary literacy curriculum, Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), at a public forum on Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 6-7:30 p.m.
The event, part of the Charting the Path to Excellence and Equity series, is being held via Zoom, and is hosted by the Worcester Education Collaborative.
The district adopted Amplify CKLA in the 2023-2024 school year as part of its efforts to improve literacy instruction. The forum addresses why this curriculum was selected, how it is being implemented in classrooms, and how teachers and students have responded so far.
The evening begins with a presentation from WPS literacy specialists Amanda Taylor, Colleen Murray, and Kate Aselton, who will outline the curriculum’s structure, key features, and early feedback from educators and students.
A panel discussion and Q&A session follows, featuring Taylor and Caleb Encarnacion-Rivera, WPS director of Equity, Cultivation, and Recruitment, and moderated by Worcester Education Collaborative Executive Director Jennifer Davis Carey. The discussion will explore how the district is ensuring the curriculum is culturally responsive and equitable for all students.
The event is open to the public and is particularly relevant for parents, educators, policymakers, and community advocates. Live Spanish interpretation will be available.
