WORCESTER—Sometimes, it’s about more than the game. It’s about more than sports. Bigger than baseball, even.

Quinsigamond Community College (QCC) is plugging a $10,000 grant from Worcester County District Attorney Joseph “Joe” Early, Jr.’s office into improvements to the college’s baseball field.

The funding is part of Early’s Drug Forfeiture Community Reinvestment program, which directs proceeds from drug crime seizures to support community organizations focused on youth and education.

“As a result of our prevention efforts, we’ve reduced juvenile delinquency complaints by 79%,” said Early in the announcement. “It happens because you all do the hard work and we get to partner with you.”

QCC President Luis G. Pedraja, Ph.D., expressed gratitude for the grant, emphasizing the impact of such partnerships. “The college is grateful to DA Early for his unwavering support of QCC and the youth of our communities. Partnerships like this highlight the power of working together for the benefit of our students and the entire region.”

Lisa Gurnick, director of Athletics & Fitness Center at QCC, said she is extremely grateful for the funding. “I would like to extend a huge ‘thank you’ to Worcester District Attorney Joe Early and his team for granting us this funding to support our baseball student-athletes and coaches,” Gurnick said in a press release. “We’re very fortunate to have the continuous support of our QCC community and the QCC Foundation.”

The $10,000 grant will be used to renovate the bullpens on QCC’s baseball field following the spring 2025 season. The baseball season at QCC is set to begin in March 2025. For more information on the baseball program and upcoming game schedules, visit QCC Athletics.
