WORCESTER—A Worcester man previously charged with unlawful possession of a machine gun has been sentenced for drug offenses.

Jose Rivera, 24, was sentenced to 75 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to the U.S. District Attorney’s Office. He had pleaded guilty to several charges in April 2024, including possession of a machine gun, receipt of a firearm while under indictment, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

During a search of Rivera’s home in March 2023, authorities found three Glock switches (one attached to a loaded Glock .40 caliber firearm), three large capacity magazines, and boxes of ammunition. They also discovered cocaine meant for distribution, a scale, tray, small plastic baggies, and $9,000 in cash. Rivera had received the firearm while under indictment for felonies punishable by more than a year in prison.

This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing gun violence and making communities safer.
