WORCESTER—When the Bravehearts open their season on May 25, it’ll be with Massachusetts’ top-ranked pitching prospect, Mavrick Rizy, on the bump. The Fiskdale native and Worcester Academy graduate is pitching for the FCBL team this summer before heading to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to join the LSU Tigers.
Standing at 6 fee, 9 inches, the right-hander follows in the footsteps of his older brother, Kyle Rizy, who was a top starter for the Bravehearts in 2022 and a Futures League All-Star. Kyle impressed with a 2.62 ERA and 48 strikeouts over 44.2 innings pitched.
“This is what Bravehearts Baseball is all about,” said Bravehearts head coach Alex Dion in an announcement. “The Bravehearts strive to put the area’s best collegiate talent on the field, and we believe Mavrick is a great example of that. The baseball talent in this area has grown tremendously over the last ten years, and we’re excited to showcase the best local talent in Central Mass on the Bravehearts.”
This season, the Bravehearts’ roster showcases players from 17 Division 1 schools, including teams from three of the Power Five conferences. Joining the lineup is Charlton-native and Alabama shortstop Joey Rubin, adding more SEC representation. Other notable schools represented include Kansas State, Michigan, and Florida Atlantic.
The Bravehearts’ season opener on Saturday, May 25, takes place at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field, taking on the Westfield Starfires at 6:30 p.m. The Bravehearts play roughly 60 games through their summer 2024 season, with all home games at Fitton Field, and away games taking them from Dodd Stadium in Connecticut to Centennial Field in Vermont to Bullens Field in Westfield.
