Local team empowers first-time homebuyers with seminar

Four industry experts from Worcester are presenting “Leap Into Home Ownership” to help take away the confusion and fear over buying a home for the first time

WORCESTER—Navigating the intricate process of buying a home for the first time is a mix of excitement and trepidation. Recognizing the challenges that often accompany this milestone, a team of four experts in home buying has taken the initiative to lead a first-time homebuyer’s class.

“Leaping Into Homeownership,” which takes place at the end of the month, aims to empower and guide individuals stepping into the realm of homeownership, offering valuable insights and expertise to make the journey smoother and more enjoyable.

McKenzie Belanger, the presenting group’s realtor, guides the essential aspects of the home-buying process. She acknowledges that buying a first home can feel overwhelming due to the numerous choices that require attention. Transitioning from renting to owning requires new skills, including finding the right community, location, and home, understanding home inspections, making an offer, and closing the deal.

According to Belanger, the seminar focuses on the idea that knowledge helps people make well-informed choices about their future. The seminar team, consisting of professionals in mortgages, insurance, law, and real estate, is united by a common goal: to provide information and empower people.

The team emphasizes the importance of being adaptable and providing personalized support to meet the diverse needs of homebuyers. The group addresses a wide range of needs, whether finding affordable options in Worcester or nearby towns such as Brookfield, Barre, and Rutland in western Mass. or catering to individuals who prioritize easy access to highways or specific demographics.

“Each of our presenters has a unique bond to the group and brings a distinct perspective,” Belanger said. “We are part of a networking group called Central Mass Partners, where we prioritize honesty, client loyalty, and a passion for assisting first-time homebuyers.”

Marina Jewers, a mortgage expert, guides attendees through the different types of mortgages, including fixed-rate, adjustable-rate, FHA, VA, USDA, and more. Additional topics to cover are the criteria lenders consider, strategies for finding the most favorable mortgage rate, and gaining insight into mortgage fees and associated expenses. This program section also includes information on federal and state programs available to first-time buyers.

Jessika Hammond, a local attorney, offers valuable insights into the legal and regulatory aspects of purchasing a first home. Hammond will delve into the responsibilities of a real estate attorney and the importance of buyer readiness when it comes to the legal paperwork that propels the process forward.

Completing the team is Anthony Martucci, an insurance expert who offers valuable insights into the insurance choices and decisions that first-time homeowners will encounter.

According to Belanger, the seminars provide participants with diverse resources, extending beyond mere financial advice. Attendees have the opportunity to benefit from the knowledge and skills of various professionals, such as painters and contractors, who can offer valuable assistance throughout the home-buying process.

“Leap into Homeownership” takes place at Baystate Brewery, located at 12 Harding St., Worcester, on Feb. 29 at 6:00 p.m. Refreshments available.
