WORCESTER—A declared winter parking ban takes effect in Worcester at midnight Sunday as a snowstorm is expected to move through the region, according to a city announcement.
The ban begins at 12 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, and remains in place until lifted by the city. During the ban, parking restrictions are enforced to allow crews to plow and treat city streets.
To accommodate residents, all municipal parking garages — with the exception of the Major Taylor Garage — are free of charge for any vehicle entering after 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, until the parking ban is lifted. Event parking rates still apply for special events.
The city is encouraging residents to use municipal garages at Federal Plaza, Pearl and Elm, Worcester Common and Union Station during the ban.
Parking is prohibited on both sides of main arteries, emergency routes, bus routes and downtown streets critical to traffic flow during the ban. On all other streets, parking is allowed only on the odd-numbered side of the street unless otherwise posted. Residents can check street-specific restrictions online through the city’s winter parking website.
Sand pick-up and recycling drop-off will be available at 1065 Millbury St., with additional sand available at 22 Albany St. and 299 Clark St. before and after plowing operations.
The city cautioned that towing and ticketing may be enforced during the ban to keep streets clear. Residents seeking information or attempting to locate a towed vehicle are advised to contact Worcester 311 by phone, email, or through the city’s 311 app, which accepts requests 24 hours a day.
During the storm, residents are urged to limit travel, allow extra time when driving, and stay clear of snowplows and road treatment vehicles. Property owners have up to 10 hours after the end of a storm to clear sidewalks adjacent to their properties, according to the announcement. Residents who are able are also asked to clear snow from fire hydrants and catch basins and are reminded not to place snow in the street.
More information on winter parking bans, snow removal policies, and safety tips is available on the city’s website. The city also noted that ALERTWorcester remains unavailable, and updates will be shared through other channels as conditions change.
